Conditions We Treat
Our licensed acupuncturist provides treatments to address the following conditions:
- Acute and chronic pain due to muscle, tendon, joint or nerve problems resulting from injury, surgery or a condition. Examples include repetitive motion injuries (e.g., carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger and tendonitis), temporomandibular disorder (TMJ) and teeth grinding, low back pain and sciatica.
- Autoimmune disorders including rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, Sjögren’s syndrome, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Graves’ disease, Raynaud’s phenomenon, scleroderma, Crohn’s disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, autoimmune hepatitis and multiple sclerosis
- Pediatric health concerns including frequent ear infections and a weak immune system
- Cognitive issues such as lack of concentration, poor memory, attention-deficit disorder (ADD) and inability to focus
- Skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and cystic acne
- Energy problems such as fatigue, lack of motivation and chronic fatigue syndrome
- Side effects of cancer treatment
- Mental health issues such as stress, anxiety and depression
- Gastrointestinal conditions including heartburn, reflux, abdominal pain, irritable bowel disease, diarrhea and constipation, and lack of appetite
- Women’s health issues including PMS, painful periods, menopause symptoms, morning sickness, fetal breech presentation, lactation difficulties – support for delivery in late pregnancy is also offered
- Sexual dysfunction including erectile dysfunction, low libido and difficulty reaching orgasm
- Infertility and other reproductive problems in women and men
- Insomnia and other sleep disorders
- Neurological conditions including chronic headaches and nerve injuries
- Respiratory problems including asthma, sinusitis and rhinitis, and seasonal allergies
- Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia
This list is not exhaustive. If you have a health concern not included above, call us. Acupuncture is also known to normalize physiological functions, stimulate the immune system, relieve drug and alcohol withdrawal symptoms, and aid in behavior changes such as weight loss and smoking cessation.
Note About Insurance
We participate with Johns Hopkins Employer Health Programs (EHP), Blue Cross and Aetna. Other insurance plans may provide full or partial reimbursement for acupuncture. Check with your insurance carrier to determine if you have an acupuncture benefit. Health savings accounts typically cover the cost of acupuncture and herbal consultations.
Our Acupuncture Expert
Jeff Gould, LAc, DiplOM
Expertise: acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Chinese dietary therapy, Western nutrition and bodywork
Jeff Gould is licensed to practice acupuncture in Maryland and has been in practice since 1999. He is trained in traditional Chinese medicine and experienced in modern Chinese integrative medicine.
In his herbal practice, Gould combines herbs to tailor formulas for each patient. This approach helps with various health concerns, and is especially useful in treating gynecological conditions and infertility and addressing a history of miscarriage.

Gould participates in research at Johns Hopkins on Chinese medicine, and has provided acupuncture for clinical trials, written grant applications and co-authored several research papers including:
- “A Pilot Study of an Acupuncture Protocol to Improve Visual Function in Retinitis Pigmentosa Patients”
- “A Dual-Center Randomized Controlled Double Blind Trial Assessing the Effect of Acupuncture in Reducing Musculoskeletal Symptoms in Breast Cancer Patients Taking Aromatase Inhibitors”
Gould is the consulting editor of the textbook Treating Autoimmune Disease with Chinese Medicine by Wanzhu Hou et al., and he assisted in the editing of Warm Pathogen Diseases – A Clinical Guide by Guohui Liu. Gould has particular experience with the issues that these books address.
