Past Stethoscope Ceremonies
2023
The Class of 2027 received their stethoscopes during the 2023 ceremony. Speakers, included Dr. Ted DeWeese, Dr. Roy Ziegelstein, Dr. Peter D. Byeff (Med ’74), and Dr. Kori Porosnicu Rodriguez (Med ’22).
2021
The 2021 Ceremony awarded the Class of 2025 with their stethoscopes. Speakers included Dr. Blossom Tewelde '21, Dr. Julia Haller, Dr. Roy Ziegelstein, and Dr. Paul B. Rothman.
2020
The 2020 Ceremony awarded the Class of 2024 with their stethoscopes. Speakers included Dr. Paul Rothman, Dr. Roy Ziegelstein, Dr. Diane Orlinsky, and Dr. Lochan Shah.

2015
On Sept. 28, 2015, 117 members of the Class of 2019 had the opportunity to meet Paul Rothman, M.D., Dean and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dean Rothman personally greeted the students, who then received their stethoscopes. Speakers included JHMSA president Clair A. Francomano, M.D., Med '80, JHMSA immediate past president Ralph Hruban, M.D. Med '85, and Eileen (Patti) Vining, M.D. Med '72, professor of neurology and pediatrics.

2013
On September 24, 2013, the Class of 2017 gathered to receive a welcoming gift - an engraved stethoscope. The ceremony, co-hosted by the Johns Hopkins Medical & Surgical Association, sets the tone for the rest of their experience at Johns Hopkins. Alumni and faculty joined the celebration to share stories of their medical school experiences. One hundred nineteen students attended this event where they also had the chance to meet Paul Rothman, M.D., Dean and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
In addition to Dean Rothman, the other speakers for the event were Roy Ziegelstein, M.D., Vice Dean for Education; Ralph Hruban, Med '85, President of the JHM&SA; Eileen (Patti) Vining, Med '72; and Iredell Iglehart III, Med '83.

2012
On October 10, 2012 the Class of 2016 gathered to receive a welcoming gift - an engraved stethoscope. The ceremony, co-hosted by the Johns Hopkins Medical & Surgical Association, sets the tone for the rest of their experience at Johns Hopkins. Alumni and faculty joined the celebration to share stories of their medical school experiences. One hundred and thirteen students attended event, and speakers included Paul Rothman, Dean and CEO, Johns Hopkins Medicine; Eileen P.G. (Patti) Vining, Med '72, President of the JHM&SA; David Hellmann, Med ’77; Ralph Hruban, Med ’85; William Nelson V, Med '85 and Kristy Weber, Med '91.

2009
On Thursday, September 24, 2009 the Class of 2013 gathered to receive a welcoming gift - an engraved stethoscope. The Johns Hopkins Medical & Surgical Association presented first year students with stethoscopes as a welcome gift, in an intimate reception held in the Strauch East Auditorium in the new Armstrong Medical Education Building. We were fortunate enough to hear from Council members Dr. William Crawley, Dr. Diane Orlinsky, Dr. John Thompson, Dr. Mack Mitchell and Dr. Nicholas Fortuin.
